About Steven Funkhouser

Funkhouser Family

Born at Marian Hospital and then a student at Fesler Junior High, Santa Maria High School, and Allan Hancock College, Steven Funkhouser developed a passion for the City and an appreciation for his community at a young age.

It was the work ethic; unselfishness and sense of pride exhibited by those around him that sparked a desire to give back to his community and laid the foundation for his career as a dedicated volunteer, community leader and small business owner.

In 2009, Steven opened Starry Sky Coffee, a small coffee shop located on the campus of Allan Hancock College. Named after his daughters, Starr and Skyler, the business has operated for over 13 years, offering students part-time employment opportunities and actively giving back to the region.

In addition to his work as a small business owner, Steven serves as a board member or chair to numerous local non-profits, including: President – Santa Maria Valley Contractors Association, Chair – Leadership Santa Maria Valley, and Member – Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce.

As a father of two young children, Steven has dedicated countless hours to the health and wellbeing of the area’s youth. He is a Board Member for Fighting Back Santa Maria Valley, an organization that informs children about the dangers of drugs and alcohol, and focuses on building a healthier community. He also serves as the Chair and Charter Advisor for the Antlers Youth Program, Elks Lodge 1538.

Steven Funkhouser lives in the City of Santa Maria with his wife, Hollie, who is a special education instructor, and their two daughters, Starr and Skyler.
